Algeria

  • Crime rates in Algeria are moderate, with common issues including petty theft, scams—especially online romance and financial scams targeting foreigners—and occasional harassment of women.
  • Do not travel near the borders with Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, and Tunisia due to high threats of terrorism and kidnapping.
  • Reconsider traveling to Kabylie and the provinces of Annaba, Béchar, Biskra, El Bayadh, El Taref, Jijel, Khenchela, Laghouat, Skikda, and Souk Ahras due to threats of terrorism and kidnapping.
  • Exercised increased caution elsewhere in Algeria.

Argentina

  • Argentina has a moderately elevated crime rate, especially in major cities like Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Rosario. Tourists are most at risk for petty theft, including pickpocketing, bag snatching, and phone grabs, particularly in crowded areas and public transport.
  • Flashy jewelry, unlocked vehicles, and distracted walking after dark increase vulnerability. Scams and counterfeit currency also occur, so vigilance is key.
  • Travelers should exercise increased caution in Rosario (Santa Fe province) due to high levels of violent crime and narcotics trafficking.
  • Additional high-risk zones include Tres de Febrero, La Matanza, and Merlo. These are all part of the Greater Buenos Aires area, where poverty, overcrowding, and weak law enforcement contribute to elevated rates of crime.

Australia

  • Avoid remote bushfire zones and isolated beaches after dark..theft is rare but can still happen.
  • Recommended: Great Barrier Reef, Melbourne’s laneways, and Uluru.
  • Wildlife encounters (snakes, jellyfish) are more common than crime, so it’s important to follow local signage when in different terrain.

Bahrain

  • Avoid protest zones like Pearl Roundabout; demonstrations can escalate quickly.
  • Recommended: Bahrain Fort, Al Dar Island, and Muharraq’s heritage trail.
  • Dress modestly and avoid public criticism of the government, laws are very strict and different from American rules.

Brazil

  • Exercise caution due to crime in big cities; avoid favelas and showing valuables.

  • Places to visit: Iguazu Falls, Amazon Rainforest, Pantanal, Lençóis Maranhenses, and Fernando de Noronha.

  • Extra tip: Seasons vary by region, plan around rainy/dry periods for the best experience.

Canada

  • Avoid poorly lit areas in major cities; petty theft in tourist zones like Old Montreal.
  • Recommended: Banff, Quebec City, Vancouver Island, low crime and high infrastructure.
  • Stay alert in crowded public transit hubs; theft tends to spike during festivals.
