Argentina

Exercise Increased Caution

  • Argentina has a moderately elevated crime rate, especially in major cities like Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Rosario. Tourists are most at risk for petty theft, including pickpocketing, bag snatching, and phone grabs, particularly in crowded areas and public transport.
  • Flashy jewelry, unlocked vehicles, and distracted walking after dark increase vulnerability. Scams and counterfeit currency also occur, so vigilance is key.
  • Travelers should exercise increased caution in Rosario (Santa Fe province) due to high levels of violent crime and narcotics trafficking.
  • Additional high-risk zones include Tres de Febrero, La Matanza, and Merlo. These are all part of the Greater Buenos Aires area, where poverty, overcrowding, and weak law enforcement contribute to elevated rates of crime.
