Ever sit at your desk, look at the map of the British Isles, Italy, and wonder: who will walk these streets next? Who will stand in a classroom far from home and feel like they belong? Because here at Ariventures Abroad, we do. That’s what your donation to Ariventures Abroad’s Fellowship program makes possible.
A Little Backstory
Ariventures Abroad is built on the belief in access, preparation, and returning with purpose. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we offer the Ambrose Conrad McAuley (ACM) Fellowship and host Global Ready Workshops designed to help fellows and participants not just travel, but thrive abroad.
In our first full year, our donors helped us raise over $4,000 toward our goals and helped us place 3 Fellows in destinations such as Northern Ireland, England, and Italy. This year, we have continued with 2 Fellows, conducted 7 workshops, and maintained a 100% completion rate for the training programs.
These aren’t just numbers; they are stories of resolve, courage, adaptation, and growth.
Why Every Dollar Matters: What Your Gift Enables
When donors invest in our Fellowship program, here’s how that money is used and how it directly impacts a student’s journey.
| Use of Funds | Impact on Fellow |
|---|---|
| Travel & logistics support | Materials, facilitators, cultural training sessions, and peer mentorship. |
| Local accommodations & safety measures | Safe housing and orientation materials so fellows can focus on learning, not worry. |
| Workshop and prep costs | Stipends/living support |
| Ongoing check-ins, group gatherings, and post-fellowship support to land back on home soil with purpose. | Basic daily needs (food, transport) in new environments where cost and adjustment can overwhelm. |
| Mentorship & community building | Ongoing check-ins, group gatherings, post-fellowship support to land back on home soil with purpose. |
We direct 85% of funding toward fellows and program delivery, while 10% goes to daily operations—ensuring lean operations but sustainable support.
Because of that allocation, when someone gives $250 (for example), nearly $212 of that goes into a fellow’s experience abroad. That’s not overhead, that is opportunity.
Partnerships: The Seeds That Grow Together
We do not walk this path alone. Over the past year, we have partnered with universities, student groups, and civic organizations to co-host workshops, source mentors, and spread awareness. Through these partnerships, we have:
- Cross-promoted workshop events, reaching students who normally don’t see “study abroad” as an option
- Leveraged campus networks to recruit new Fellows and ambassadors
- Accessed in-kind resources—venues, gear, tech support—that reduce costs and amplify impact
As we grow, we plan to expand partnership networks to more institutions across the U.K., Ireland, and continental Europe, and eventually to new regions (Asia, Latin America) where representation is even less common.
The Road Ahead: Growth, Sustainability, and Equity
We stand at an inflection point. While we placed 3 Fellows in our first year and 2 in our second, we intend to expand that next year.
We plan to:
- Increase recurring donors so revenue becomes more predictable
- Introduce scholarship challenges (e.g., “Sponsor a Fellow Week”)
- Seed a small emergency fund so Fellows can respond to unanticipated crises abroad (health, travel changes, etc.)
All of this depends on one core truth: the difference between a dream and a journey often lies in community support.
