The rumor is true. Ariventures has an address in the South of France now. Not a hotel booking, not a summer sublet with an exit date. A home base in Marseille, a language school enrollment, and a standing order at a boulangerie whose name we are keeping to ourselves, obviously.
We are publishing this on July 14, France’s own holiday, because we believe in a sense of occasion. Happy Bastille Day. We brought a housewarming gift: us.
Why here, why now
No region gets requested more than the South of France. The villa week, the Riviera celebration, the milestone birthday with a coastline attached: this is the trip our travelers dream about most, and the one where the gap between a good version and a perfect version is widest. You can plan this region from a desk in the States. Most advisors do. We decided the standard should be higher than that.
We don’t plan trips we haven’t been on. That has always been the rule, and it’s why we’ve now put ourselves where the trips actually happen. From here, the vetting is not an annual research visit. It is Tuesday.
Our roots here run deep
Some history the longtime readers have earned. Ariventures’ story includes three years of living in Paris, years that shaped how this company thinks about France: the pace, the standards, the difference between visiting a place and belonging to it. Then came the return to the States, and with it the slow fade that every expat knows, where the fluency dulls and the daily rhythms become memories.
Moving back was partly a business decision and partly a homecoming. Both reasons are true, and we see no need to rank them.
What “on the ground” actually means
It means the villa we featured this month was vetted by sleeping in it, the beach club by claiming the front row, the catamaran crew by spending a day on their deck. It means language school, because we work in French here, and our clients’ requests deserve to land in the right language on the first try. It means the boulangerie, the Pilates studio, the market on Saturday: the unglamorous residency that turns a destination into a territory we can navigate blind.
It also means the archive grows weekly. Fifty-plus countries of first-hand expertise was the moat before. Now one of the world’s most requested regions gets covered the way locals cover it, because as of this summer, that is what we are becoming.
What changes for you
For our travelers: better answers, faster, from closer. The South of France requests that once required research now get answered from experience, sometimes from the exact table in question.
