Front row or don’t bother

Some beach days you engineer. The best ones you barely plan. We spent a week this July based in Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, a quiet town on the French Riviera we’ve written about before, and gave one day to the local beach club, where the only decision on the calendar was lunch. Le Boho delivered the platonic ideal of a Riviera beach day at a price that would make Saint-Tropez blush. We don’t plan trips we haven’t been on, and we definitely don’t recommend sunbeds we haven’t napped on.

The front row costs 35 euros

Let’s lead with the number, because the number is the story. A front row sunbed at Le Boho beach club runs 35 euros. Anyone who has priced the famous clubs down the coast knows that figure buys you roughly a bottle of water and a judgmental look at a Nikki Beach. Here it buys the actual front row: the water at your feet, private beach access, and a full day of someone bringing you things.

Food and drinks stay reasonably priced for the area too, which continues the theme this coast keeps proving for us. Saint-Cyr delivers the Riviera experience without the Riviera invoice, and the beach club is the clearest example yet.

The water, honestly

Full disclosure for early July swimmers: the water runs cold on first contact. The technique is commitment. Dip yourself fully, all at once, no negotiating with it one toe at a time, and within a minute you’re in exactly the right place, because the sun above is doing serious work and the contrast becomes the whole pleasure. Cold sea, hot day, front row bed waiting. We had one of the best naps of the summer on that sunbed, and we take our napping seriously.

Order the sushi

The kitchen surprised us. The sushi and the poke bowl were the standouts of the day, fresh and legitimately good rather than beach-club good, which is a distinction anyone who has eaten a sad club sandwich on a paid lounger will understand.

Now the warning we owe you, offered with love. Do not get ambitious with the alcoholic beverages. The sun and the heat multiply everything, and the gap between “one more rosé” and “fully impaired by 3pm” is shorter on that beach than anywhere we’ve tested it. Pace accordingly, hydrate like it’s your job, and let the nap be the indulgence.

The verdict

Le Boho is officially Ariventures Approved, and the rule stands as the title says: book the front row or don’t bother. The front row is the product. The rest is proximity to the product.

Which day of the week to go, when to arrive for the best beds, and how the day fits into a full Saint-Cyr itinerary: that stays in the family.
