A Luxurious Day Trip to St. Barths

If you’re looking to add a touch of luxury to your Caribbean adventure, a day trip to St. Barths is the perfect addition. Known for its upscale charm and French Riviera vibes, St. Barths offers a unique blend of relaxation and sophistication—all just a short flight or ferry ride from St. Maarten.

Getting There: Ferry vs. Flight

The journey to St. Barths is an adventure in itself. You have two main options: taking a quick 10-minute flight or hopping on a 45-minute ferry ride. Both have their pros and cons.

  • Flight: Offers stunning aerial views and gets you there quickly, but can be pricey and limited in availability.
  • Ferry: More affordable and scenic, but motion sickness is a risk—bring Dramamine or motion sickness patches if you’re sensitive to choppy seas.

We had half our group fly and the other half take the ferry—it was fun to compare both experiences and weigh the trade-offs.

TranspoGetting Around: Taxis vs. Car Rentals
Once on the island, you’ll quickly realize that transportation isn’t cheap.

  • Taxis: Prices start around €35, even for short rides. They’re convenient but costly.
  • Car Rentals: If you’re planning to explore more than one area, renting a car is more practical and budget-friendly. We used two services:
    • Maurice Car Rental: Great for aesthetics—think fun Mokes—but not the most functional.
    • Gumbs Car Rental: Offered more reliable vehicles and a smoother experience overall.

If you’re staying for the full day, a rental gives you more flexibility and can help cut down on costs.

Beach Clubs: Where to Lounge in Style
St. Barths is famous for its beach clubs—some lively and chic, others more relaxed but equally stunning. Two of our favorites:

  • Nikki Beach: A hotspot for jetsetters and celebs, this beach club is the epitome of luxury. Expect to spend. Weekends require a minimum spend (up to €400), and reservations for beach chairs and dining are made separately.
  • Gypsea Beach Club: A more low-key but still elevated experience. Comfortable loungers, quality service, and a great lunch menu.

Expect to pay €80+ for a basic beach chair and €100–125 for a daybed, depending on the club. Tip: Reserve ahead for both beach seating and meals—they don’t come as a package.

Dining & Drinks: Budgeting for Flavor
Dining in St. Barths is a splurge—but a delicious one. A simple lunch like a burger and fries can run about €50. Many beach clubs offer curated menus that match the upscale vibe, but if you’re looking to save, consider grabbing a drink and light snack instead of a full sit-down meal.

Whether you’re dining by the beach or in Gustavia, expect attentive service, refined presentation, and strong French-Caribbean culinary influences.

Shopping: Designer Deals & Island Finds
Gustavia, the island’s main town, is a shopper’s paradise. You’ll find everything from Louis Vuitton and Cartier to local boutiques. Because many luxury brands here follow European pricing, you might snag a deal compared to U.S. prices—especially on leather goods and accessories.

Even if you’re not shopping, strolling through Gustavia’s clean, walkable streets is a treat. It’s all part of the island’s effortlessly chic atmosphere.

Bonus Experience: Seabob with H2O Watersports
If you’re looking for something fun and adventurous, we highly recommend trying the Seabob experience with H2O Watersports. It’s a high-powered underwater scooter that lets you glide effortlessly through the ocean. Whether you’re skimming the surface or diving below, it’s a thrilling way to see marine life and adds a fun twist to your beach day.

They offer great service, and the staff is patient, especially with first-timers. Just note that availability can be limited, so it’s best to reserve in advance.

Final Thoughts: Is It Worth It?
Absolutely. A day in St. Barths is a splurge, but it’s also a memory-maker. From the moment you arrive, the vibe is upscale yet approachable. Whether you’re lounging at a beach club, sipping champagne, browsing boutiques, or diving underwater with a Seabob, the island delivers luxury in every detail.

Just be prepared for the price tag—St. Barths is not budget travel—but if you plan ahead and know what to expect, it’s worth every euro.
