Takeaways from Joy’s Travel Scary

  • travel scary (noun)
  •  An experience or situation encountered during travel that induces fear, anxiety, or discomfort due to potential risks, unfamiliar environments, or unsettling circumstances.
  •  Most people have either heard or personally experienced a travel scary before. In the moment, they can be quite stressful. They’re typically unprecedented experiences that occur at inconvenient times, hence the scary. But we can overcome difficult cry-inducing obstacles. Here’s how Joy faced an unexpected turn of events.
  • Everyone knows that one of the most tedious parts of traveling is packing your suitcases beforehand. We spend a lot of time and effort curating the list of items that will make the cut for the trip. What we do not anticipate is arriving at our destination without our luggage! On a lengthy flight from NYC to Paris, Joy could not believe that this was her luck. However, Joy was able to manage the first two days of her trip because of a small, but reliable ally: her travel credit card!

So, how did her travel credit card save the day? By providing reimbursement. She had purchased her airline ticket with her travel credit card, allowing her to contact the credit card company for help in this situation. In doing so, Joy was reimbursed for all of the important items she was missing such as toothpaste, clothes, and shoes. Had Joy used her debit card instead, the level of help she would have received might not have looked as it did with her credit card. Joy’s first two days in Paris would not have gone as smoothly as it had without her luggage.

Next time you’re debating on whether to use a debit or credit card when traveling, think about the following benefits of a credit card!

  • Rewards and points– While you spend, you can earn points and rewards on your trip.
  • Added security and benefits– If there is any fraudulent activity detected with your card use, you are not responsible for unauthorized use as long as you report it quickly. Additionally, if Joy used her debit card for her flight ticket, she would not have been reimbursed for essentials she lost, leading to out of pocket costs.
  • Convenience– Credit cards are generally accepted worldwide. This reduces the worry of having to carry large sums of cash as you explore.

Remember, no matter how much you plan ahead, some things are just out of our control. By maintaining a proactive mindset, you can get the solution you need in a timely manner!
